The Answers You Need

What Is Health Coaching?

Health & Wellness Coaching is a relatively new field of holistic health care that works with individuals who want to improve their overall health and well-being. Health Coaching incorporates concepts drawn from psychology, behavior change, motivational interviewing, and life coaching to help clients realize and overcome obstacles to maintain healthy habits for life.

How is Health Coaching Different than Going to a Doctor or Dietician?

Health Coaching is in a different scope of practice than that of a doctor, nutritionist, or personal trainer.  These professionals diagnose and treat with meal plans, exercise regimens or prescriptions.  Advice is directed at you and the conversation is one way-telling you what to do and how to act.  Although it can initially spark motivation for change, it eventually leads to anger and resentment, as the motivation to change is not from within .  In coaching, the goals for change come from within yourself.  Sessions are client centered and client focused. We discuss and set goals for what you want to achieve.

Is a Health Coach the Same Thing as a Dietician or a Nutritionist?

What is 'NBC-HWC'?

No. Although Caile does have extensive education in nutrition concepts and diets, she is not a certified nutritionist or dietician. Unlike nutritionists or RD's, she does not prescribe specific diets or supplements.  She is not privy to clients specific medical history so she cannot prescribe diets that may have an effect on medication or supplementation they are already taking. That being said, she can advise clients on nutrient specifics pertaining to food groups and adjusting to healthy lifestyle.  She also can help you achieve your nutrition related goals and guide you along that journey, more so than a dietician who may simply tell you what to eat but not offer advice on how to change those behaviors.

"The National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) has collaborated with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) since 2016 to provide a robust board certification examination which has led to more than 5,000 National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches that hold the NBC-HWC credential. The esteemed NBC-HWC credential represents training, education, and assessment standards, allowing for the profession to advance in all aspects of health care and wellness."

Is Caile NBC-HWC Certified?

Yes, Caile is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach.  She sat for the board exam in October 2021 after completing her Health Coach education under Dr. Sears.

FAQ: FAQ

All I Want Is A Pesonal Trainer, Is A Health Coach the Same Thing?

A Health Coach is not the same thing as a personal trainer, however, Caile is a fitness instructor and trainer and does offer fitness classes and personal training sessions outside of health coaching.  Caile holds an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science & Sports Medicine and previously worked in outpatient physical therapy which enhanced her knowledge of biomechanics, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and strength training.  Caile currently works out of two small gyms, one in Allston and one in Wilmington, but also provides virtual training sessions, outdoor training sessions, and in-home gym training sessions.  All new fitness clients must do a fitness initial consult prior to starting a training program.
